What Does A Pharmacy Technician Do?

Pharmacy Technicians often act as the bridge between patients and physicians or pharmacists. They are often responsible for many patient interactions and duties, including the following:

  • Assisting pharmacists in a drugstore or hospital setting.
  • Welcoming patients and customers as they come to receive their prescriptions.
  • Counting tablets and measuring amounts of other medication for prescriptions.
  • Preparing and administering prescriptions as instructed by a physician or pharmacist.
  • Packaging and labeling prescriptions.
  • Accepting payment for prescriptions and processing insurance claims.

By attending classes at Pharmacy Technician School, students will learn competency in all of these tasks and more. By training for this career, pharmacy tech students can make themselves more employable.

How Much Can Pharmacy Technicians Make?

The most recent salary information comes from the 2015 Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median annual wage for pharmacy technicians was $30,410 in May 2015. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $20,950, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $45,030*.
